João has a Law degree from the University of Porto and a Masters in Law and Legal Science from the University of Lisbon. A lawyer since 2018, he has focused his practice on patent and SPC litigation, trademarks, company names, trade secrets and unfair competition, as well as defining strategies for registering and protecting IP rights and drafting and reviewing various types of contracts involving intellectual property issues. He worked at Vieira de Almeida e Associados between 2016 and 2024, before joining NLP as Managing Associate.

Relevant experience in (i) litigation and pre-litigation in court and arbitration disputes regarding industrial property rights (patents, supplementary protection certificates, trademarks, company names, trade secrets and unfair competition), including nullity actions relating to these rights (ii) definition of IP protection strategies, preparation, registration and portfolio management of trademarks and (iii) transactional issues related to intellectual property (due diligence, review and negotiation of various types of contracts, including licence and transfer agreements, naming and sponsorship agreements, employment and service agreements, consortium agreements, among others).
Author of several publications on legal issues related to Intellectual Property.
In the process of taking office as a Portuguese Patent and Trademark Attorney.
