The Challenges of Cosmetics in the World of Intellectual Property (How to put Make-Up on the Make-Up?)

The challenges that the cosmetics industry has faced, and to which it has responded with intellectual property, are threefold: scientific innovation, ecological sustainability and financial sustainability.

On the one hand, ‘expressions such as “PATENTED FORMULA” are increasingly visible on cosmetic packaging, which assures the consumer about the exclusivity and quality of the product. On the other hand, the cosmetics industry has been at the forefront of the ecological sustainability of its packaging,’ says Sara Nazaré, Founding Partner of NLP, in her opinion article published today in OBSERVADOR. With regard to the third challenge, Sara Nazaré adds:As a way of encouraging research, the governments have created incentives such as the Patent Box. Through this system, it is possible to exempt a very significant part of the income earned through contracts for the assignment or temporary use of certain industrial property rights from taxes.’
