Joana Piriquito Santos, partner at NLP, was the moderator of the Winter roundtable organized by UNION-IP, which took place in Munich.

The UNION-IP Roundtable, organized by UNION-IP, provides practitioners with the opportunity to hear from authoritative speakers on key topics in European and international IP. Just as importantly, it allows participants to engage with these experts, sharing practical insights and contributing to the discussion.

This year’s edition, held in Munich, featured two panels analyzing Claim Interpretation and Bifurcation Across Different Patent Forums, incorporating the latest updates from case law.

Joana Piriquito Santos, partner at NLP, moderated the first panel on Claim Interpretation, which included:

  • Edger Brinkman, Judge at The Hague Local Division of the Unified Patent Court
  • Heli Pihlajamaa, Principal Director at the European Patent Office
  • Detlev-Georg Schmidt-Bilkenroth, Head of the Physics Examination Division at the German Patent and Trademark Office

The second panel, focused on Bifurcation: Exploring the Latest Case Law and Evolving Practices, was moderated by Gisbert Hohagen and featured:
