Communication is essential in the modern political arena, especially in electoral contexts. However, we often see abuses, particularly with regard to intellectual property rights.

Among the cases highlighted, João Carlos Assunção discusses the accusation of copyright infringement made by The White Stripes due to the unauthorised use of the iconic bass line from ‘Seven Nation Army’ in a campaign video. He also refers to the episode in which Céline Dion publicly opposed the use of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Republican election event.
